CHRISTMAS APPITIZERS AT THE JAMES K. POLK MANSION
We’ll start our tour at the ancestral home of the 11th President of the United States, James K. Polk. A tour of
the home, museum and gardens will be included.
After the tour, we will enjoy tasty appetizers in the courtyard or the primitive kitchen on the grounds. This is
the first of our three (3) meals during our Progressive Lunch tour.
CHRISTMAS LUNCH AT THE RIPPIVILLA PLANTATION
Next on our tour is the Rippavilla Plantation, a magnificent Antebellum mansion which has been decorated for
the season. Built in the 1850’s by Major Nathaniel Cheairs, this home is noted for its beauty, history and a
romantic love story which broke a long family tradition. This 22 room home was on the route of both
Confederate and Union armies and thus became part of Civil War history. This was the site of an important
breakfast of Confederate Generals on the morning of the Battle of Franklin. In addition to enjoying this
beautiful home and its furnishings, there is an exhibit of Civil War items and family pictures
and memorabilia to enjoy.
After touring the home, we’ll have a seat in the beautiful double parlors to experience
a delightful plantation style holiday meal.
CHRISTMAS DESSERTS AT FERGUSON HALL
Our next stop is historic Ferguson Hall. As we enjoy homemade desserts served by docents in period dress,
we will hear the tale of love and death in this home during the Civil War. The original owner Martin Cheairs
(aka Bill Alsup) will weave this tale for you..
During this wonderful Progressive Lunch Tour, all the homes will be beautiful dressed for the season.
