April 16 – 27, 2013     12 days—11 nights

On this exciting tour we’ll visit spectacular  Switzerland, Austria and Bavaria on our tour featuring four-night
stays in two cities.  The medieval city of Bern, one of Europe’s loveliest capitals, is our host city for four nights
as we explore the Swiss countryside. Next we will move for four nights in Innsbruck offering the perfect
location from which to explore the delights of Austria and Bavaria.  With our use of only “two” hotels in Europe,
we don’t have to worry about packing and unpacking our luggage on a daily basis.

WEDNESDAY—April 17th

We’ll have a delicious breakfast at our hotel in Chicago this morning.  Then, later afternoon, we’ll head to the
airport for our overnight flight to Switzerland.  (Meals:  B)

THURSDAY—April 18th

BERN: Our tour begins in the capital of Switzerland, Bern, a UNESCO World Heritage site nestled in the
Swiss countryside.  The cobbled Old Town section is so well preserved that residents who lived here 500
years ago would find it familiar today.
This evening we’ll enjoy a special welcome dinner featuring local cuisine.  (D)

FRIDAY—April 19th

BERN: Today we’ll explore Bern with a panoramic sightseeing tour featuring the Fundeshaus (the Swiss
Parliament), the famous Bear Pit, the Rose Gardens, and the gothic cathedral which dominates the Old Town
skyline. I’ve built in some “free” time for you to explore Bern and it’s unique souvenir shops this afternoon. (B)

SATURDAY—April 20th

BERN –CHATEAU de CHILLON – MONTREUX – TRAIN RIDE:  Today we will travel the shores of Lake
Geneva to the legendary, medieval Chatear de Chillon.  Later, we’ll enjoy breaktaking Alpine views with a ride
on the Golden Pass Panoramic train.  This legendary train ride, one of Switzerland’s many scenic rides,
connects Lake Geneva and central Switzerland.  Departing from Montreux, the train makes an exhilarating
ascent through vineyards and country estates leaving behind the shimmering lake.  Instead of palm trees, fir
trees seem to cover the area.  Our ride takes us past weathered timber chalets with their flower-bedecked
windows to the world famous holiday resort of Gstaad. ( B )

SUNDAY—April 21st

BERN – LUCERNE – BERN: Today we travel to Lucerne, the “Swiss Paradise on the Lake”.  With over 800
years of history, we’ll explore such medieval treasures as the Covered Chapel Bridge; the famous Water
Tower which has served as a prison, watchtower and treasury; the Renaissance-style Town Hall; the baroque
Jesuit Church and the Lion Monument. (B & D)

MONDAY—April 22nd

BERN – INNSBRUCK – BERN: En route to Innsbruck we will travel through Liectenstein, the smallest and
richest German-speaking country in the world and the only country to lie entirely within the Alps.  Our
Innsbruck tour highlights the popular thoroughfare, Maria Theresienstrass; the Hofburg, now a museum but
once the seat of Habsburg prices; and the “Golden Roof”,
all set against the imposing backdrop of the lovely Austrian Alps. (B)

TUESDAY—April 23rd

INNSBRUCK – SALZBURG – INNSBRUCK: Traveling through the picturesque Austrian countryside to
Salzburg, we’ll enjoy a leisurely paced walking tour featuring Mirabell Gardens (seen the the “Sound of
Music”): the quaint Getreidegasse (site of Mozart’s birtplace) and many other sights.  Again, I’ve arranged
more free time this afternoon to explore more of Salzburg’s unique shops.  Our day concludes with a delightful
dinner at the 1200-year-old St. Peter’s Restaurant, the oldest in Austria and still owner by the Monks. ( B, D)

WEDNESDAY – April 24th

INNSBRUCK:  Today we’ll visit the romantic Alpine village of Seefeld.  Beautifully situated at 3,600 feet above
sea lever, this charming town commands breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and countryside.
Known as one of the world’s great ski resorts, we’ll arrive by train before enjoying a traditional horse and
buggyride before shopping in some of the quaint village stores.  And, while visiting a small country home, we’ll
learn how to make our own apple strudel and sample more of Austria’s famous sweets. (B)

THURSDAY—April 25th

INNBRUCK – BAVARIA, GERMANY – OBERAMMERGAU – INNSBRUCK: Today, with cameras ready, fairy
tales come to life with a picture stop at Bavaria’s most famous castle, Neuschwanstein.  Next we will visit Wies
Church before proceeding to Oberammergau.  This village is known for it’s Passion Play, performed only
every ten years to fulfill a pledge made by the villages to God for sparing their city from the ravages of bubonic
plague in 1633.  Later we’ll enjoy the rich musical-tradition of mountainous Austria during a Tyrolean folklore
show.  This evening I’ve arranged a delicious farewell dinner in one of Innsbruck’s
